Biography

Business and management was not my original area of study. I majored in chemistry and studied the Russian language in college, and then worked as a process and environmental engineer after graduation.

During that time, I found that the understanding of how to find the right people for an organization, how to keep them motivated, and how to strategically plan and solve problems to bring success to a company were vital to any organization, regardless of what you do, make or sell. It was this revelation that started me on the path of studying management and organizations.

In addition to being a chemist, I worked in corporate human resources manager, a business strategy and HR consultant, and an operations manager for several large multinational corporations. What was satisfying about this work was that I could see the impact that my team and I had on not only organizational performance but also employee satisfaction.

While working as a chemist, and then in management, I realized that while profits are vital for an organization to be sustainable, there was more to the picture: environmental impact, community engagement, the treatment of employees and customers, and ethical business practices. All of these important issues are captured under the umbrella of corporate social responsibility.

I am so happy to be a part of Monmouth, where I engage in meaningful and interesting dialogue with my students and my colleagues each day. I am able to draw on my experiences in the corporate world and in science and bring those experiences to the classroom. Every day is different – every day makes you think and question and learn.
