Valerie A. Deisinger
Assistant Professor, History
Valerie Deisinger joined the faculty after receiving her Ph.D. in United States History at Stanford University and earning a J.D. with honors at Northwestern University. Her teaching at Monmouth spans the breadth of the United States history curriculum and includes specialized courses drawing on her expertise in legal history. Professor Deisinger’s research reflects her interdisciplinary training, examining the persistence and abandonment of legally sanctioned slavery in the Old Northwest and documenting how changes within legal culture and practice, disconnected from policy preferences, impacted the content of law and shaped the surrounding society.
