Stockdale Center changes
Main dining room to undergo ‘complete renovation,’ students to receive all-access dining
When Monmouth College students return to campus in August, they’ll get to enjoy a renovated main dining room in Stockdale Student Center as well as a new service – all-access dining.
Monmouth Vice President for Business and Finance Richard Marshall said the changes are part of a two-year, $750,000 investment by Aramark, the College’s food service provider. Last summer, Aramark renovated Scotland Yard, the food court on Stockdale Student Center’s lower level.
“This summer’s project is tantamount to a complete renovation of the main dining room, as well as freshening up Scots Market downstairs,” Marshall said.
The renovated main dining room will be brighter and feature new furnishings and several new gathering areas, which will expand the room’s community space. Marshall said the renovated main dining room will be “much more modern,” and it will offer a variety of types of seating, including more high-top tables.
“Some areas will also have the capability to be screened, providing a degree of privacy or separation for groups that want to meet there,” he said.
Along with a new look will come all-access dining, which will eliminate the counting of meals on a student’s meal plan. All-access dining will allow a student to eat a full breakfast, lunch and dinner and still visit the main dining room at other times during the day to grab a beverage or snack at no additional cost.
“Under the all-access plan, meals per week are not counted,” said Marshall. “Students involved in our student government approached me about having more options for the use of their meal money, and this certainly gives them that.”
In addition to giving students more dining options, all-access dining will also accommodate students’ diverse academic and cocurricular schedules, while fostering a greater sense of community in Stockdale Center’s main dining room.
“I believe that the dining room renovation and all-access meal plan will make the Stockdale Center a much more inviting space, giving students a place to eat and drink, and to hang out, as well,” said Marshall. “The project represents a significant investment by both Monmouth College and Aramark in the students of Monmouth College to make sure they have a modern, first-class dining facility and good food and drink while they’re here.”
