Faculty to combine talents for chamber music concert
MONMOUTH, Ill. – Several Monmouth College faculty members will combine their talents for a unique event Oct. 22.
“Music and Words: A Faculty Chamber Music Concert” will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Kasch Performance Hall of Dahl Chapel and Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.
“This event features music as well as poetry that inspires and is inspired by that music,” said Associate Professor of Music Tim Pahel, who chairs the College’s music department.
Music instructor Carolyn Suda will perform Bach’s D Minor Unaccompanied Cello Suite and Bruch’s well-known Kol Nidre, the most important prayer of Yom Kippur, or Day of Atonement, in the Jewish faith.
“(English professor) David Wright will read his new poetry that was inspired by this music, and there will be other readings of poetry at the event, as well,” said Pahel.
Music instructor Dane Feenstra will perform an art song by Schubert, “Auf Dem Strom” (“On the River”).
“This piece was originally composed for tenor, French horn and piano, but we will perform a version for tenor, cello and piano,” said Pahel, who will provide the piano accompaniment.
