MONMOUTH, Ill. – April Zorn Memorial Stadium will be rockin’ on the evening of Nov. 6 when the Monmouth College Marching Band presents a special program.

The 41-member band will present its second-annual “Sounds of the Stadium” performance under the April Zorn Memorial Stadium lights at 7 p.m.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature music the band performs during its halftime show at home football games, music performed in the stands during game day, drum cadences and a selection of patriotic music.

The marching band’s halftime show features songs by the Rolling Stones that include “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “Honky Woman,” “It’s Only Rock ’n’ Roll (But I Like It)” and “Paint It Black.”

The marching band will also perform music it will play at its annual Veterans Day tribute performance at the Monmouth Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. (That Nov. 11 concert will be given at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2301, 830 N. G St.)

“We typically perform during the day at football games and parades, so this gives us a chance to have a performance under the lights,” said Jordan Van Dyke, who is in his fifth year with the band and his second as its director. “‘Sounds of the Stadium’ is just a great time to see our whole season at once.”

Joining Van Dyke this year is assistant band director Andrew Dziuk, who is a new adjunct professor at Monmouth. This year’s drum majors are seniors Sam Dummer of Round Lake Beach, Ill., and Luke Pratt of Kewanee, Ill., and junior Chase Carnes of Monmouth.

“This year has been a fantastic year with a great group of students who have worked extremely hard and have been very flexible as well,” said Van Dyke. “The band continues to develop throughout the season and we are excited to perform under the lights together for our school and community.”

Van Dyke said that earlier this semester, the band went on two recruiting performance trips.

“I’m excited for the future of the marching band program,” he said.
