The Monmouth College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will hold a trick-or-treating event for area children and their family members from 5-7 p.m. on Halloween. This year's event will be held on East Broadway in front of Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.MONMOUTH, Ill. – Watch out for those ghosts and witches this Tuesday, Oct. 31, as Monmouth College’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will host a Halloween trick-or-treating event for the local community.

SAAC members will be set up on East Broadway in front of the College’s Dahl Chapel and Auditorium from 5:30-7 p.m. on Halloween. All area children and their families are welcome to attend.

“I’m looking forward to seeing all the creative and fun costumes, and helping our student-athletes interact with our community, as well,” said Michelle DeCoud, a SAAC co-adviser and head coach of the Fighting Scots women’s basketball team.

This will be the second time in as many years SAAC has held a trick-or-treating event for area children.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for all of our student-athletes to make a connection with the community,” said women’s and men’s tennis coach Brian Dahlstrom, a SAAC co-adviser. “All the teams really had a fun time last year.”

“They were very excited to put this event on again, so it’s definitely a favorite,” said DeCoud. “It’s a great way to get into a festive mood.”

Representatives from all Monmouth College athletic teams will take part in the event, led by softball player Lillian Hucke ’24 of Aledo, Illinois, and volleyball player Paige Bergschneider ’25 of Alexander, Illinois.

“It’s fun collaborating with other teams on campus, because it unites us and makes each program stronger,” said Bergschneider.

Hucke said she enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate with other student-athletes.

“Especially now that I’m in sociology and anthropology, my classes are really small,” she said. “So getting to talk to these people that I see out on the field, you know, it’s like, ‘Oh, you’re the great soccer player, and I get to talk to you.’ It’s super fun.”

Monmouth students who don’t get enough Halloween fun on Oct. 31 can participate in a “Haunted Tag” in the Center for Science and Business. The event – in which students have to find pieces of flashlights planted in haunted rooms – will be held for Monmouth students from 9-11 p.m. on Nov. 3.
