Remembering a Remarkable Man
After more than 14 months, a monument honoring Champion Miller and his wife, Juda, has been erected in Monmouth Cemetery. The monument is visible from Sixth Street at the East Girard cemetery entrance. “Thanks to all who helped bring this about,” said retired College historian Jeff Rankin. “Research on the Miller family and Monmouth’s other early Black residents remains ongoing, but it is gratifying to finally have a physical reminder of this remarkable man who raised himself up from slavery and became a model Monmouth citizen.” Read more about Champion Miller.
