Fall Fighting Scots Teams Set to Start Their Seasons

Women’s tennis kicks off fall sports with Aug. 27 home match; September opens with 14 consecutive days of Fighting Scots athletics.

MONMOUTH, Ill. — The Monmouth College campus is busy preparing for the start of the 2022 fall athletics season, which gets underway on Aug. 10 when members of the Fighting Scots football team move into the residence halls. Football practice begins the following day. The remainder of the fall athletics teams move in on Aug. 17, with their team practices starting over the next two days.

While August includes a couple exhibition games in various sports and controlled shared practices with other teams, the first official intercollegiate event of the 2022-23 season will be a home women’s tennis match on Saturday, Aug. 27, against Central College. Men’s golf tees off for the first time in 2022 in the Quad Cities on Aug. 29.

September brings a wild and crazy start as there is at least one athletics event every day for the first 14 days of the month. The College will livestream home events on a new platform this year through SidearmSports. MonmouthScots.com includes a composite calendar for all Fighting Scots events; the website’s calendar allows fans to add the Fighting Scots events to their Google Calendar, Outlook or iCalendar.

Coming off an 8-2 season, coach Chad Braun’s football team will play five home games in 2022. The season opens at home with the first night game in April Zorn Memorial Stadium history, a 7 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 3 against Wartburg College. This game has been designated a white out, and fans can order their special game-day shirt here.

Monmouth’s volleyball team is eyeing a return to the Midwest Conference tournament after qualifying to the 2021 postseason. Their home-opener against Rockford University is set for 7 p.m. on Sept. 6 at Glennie Gymnasium.

The men’s soccer team opens at home against University of Dubuque with a 3:30 p.m. game on Sept. 1; the women’s soccer team opens the same day at Rockford. Both soccer teams will be home on Saturday, Sept. 3, with the men hosting Wisconsin-Whitewater at 10 a.m. and the women facing Webster University at noon.

The men’s and women’s golf teams will host the Fall Fighting Scot Invite on Sept. 17-18 with multiple teams coming to Gibson Woods Golf Course.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams don’t have any home regular season events, but they will host the Midwest Conference Championships at Gibson Woods on Oct. 29.

Volleyball, tennis and football are all at home during homecoming weekend, Sept. 30-Oct. 1. Tennis will host Illinois College at 4 p.m. on Sept. 30, while volleyball hosts Eureka at 7 p.m. On Oct. 1, volleyball will play an 11 a.m. conference match against Lake Forest before football hosts Lawrence at 2 p.m.
