MONMOUTH, Ill. – Cellist Anne Suda and soprano Christine Steyer will perform a concert with pianist and Monmouth College professor Tim Pahel on consecutive days to start the month of February.

The trio will present the recital at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1 in the Kasch Performance Hall of Monmouth College’s Dahl Chapel and Auditorium, followed by a 2 p.m. Feb. 2 performance in the Kresge Recital Hall on the campus of Knox College. Both events are free and open to the public.

The recital will include music in a variety of styles, including, for soprano and piano, an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary operatic arias, American folk songs by John Jacob Niles, art songs by Franz Schubert, and original songs. Suda will play pieces for cello and piano by Leonard Bernstein, Mark Carlson, Lukas Foss, Enrique Granados and Sergei Rachmaninov, and the recital will conclude with music for soprano, cello and piano by Andre Previn.

“It is very exciting that Anne and Christine will be performing together for the first time,” said Pahel, who directs Monmouth’s vocal ensembles. “They are both incredible artists and performers, and I know that our audiences will love hearing this special concert.”

A native of Monmouth and the daughter of two College faculty members, Suda has recently pursued graduate studies in San Francisco and Los Angeles and has performed nationally and internationally as a professional cellist. A recent winner of the Francis Walton solo competition prize in Seattle, some of her concerto appearances include the UCLA Orchestra, Venice Symphony, Sonoma Philharmonic and San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, as well as the Knox-Galesburg Symphony.

A graduate of Knox, Steyer is the recent recipient of seven national performance awards including the American Prize Chicago Oratorio and Opera Award and the Johnny Mercer Award. She has sung as a chorister and in several small roles in more than 40 productions at Lyric Opera of Chicago. Since 2005, Steyer has also brought classical music to 23,000 youths in underserved areas with Bellissima Opera Outreach, an organization that she founded.
