Red Sea Security
MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Red Sea, with bordering countries including Egypt, Somalia, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, has remained vital for global trade since ancient times.
Political science professor Mike Nelson, who also directs the Great Decisions program, will lead the Red Sea discussion at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in Room 276 of the Center for Science and Business. All eight discussions in this spring’s series are free and open to the public.
Once home to the spice trade, the Red Sea now sees millions of barrels of oil a day transported across its waters. Nelson and the group will discuss the future of the region, as major nations like China, France, Italy and the U.S. are building large ports and bases there. Can it be a place of global cooperation?
