Donor Spotlight: Carla Sanders ’91
- Carla Sanders ’91
After graduating from Monmouth, Carla earned a master’s degree from Bradley University, then worked at a variety of social services positions. She is now retired and living in Canton, Ill.
HER GIFT: Carla made a multi-year pledge to the new Kappa Kappa Gamma house. Her parents, Eugene “Abe” and Shirley Castle Sanders ’55, met at Monmouth. Her mother was in KKG, as was her aunt, Mary Castle Josephson ’51. Carla held offices in the women’s fraternity, and she says the organizational skills she acquired “really helped me.”
WHY SHE GIVES: “That kind of thing means a lot to me,” says Carla of her family connections to Monmouth and KKG. “(Before I attended) I didn’t understand why Kappa was so important to my mother and aunt, but I certainly do now. It was a really big thing for me once I got to Monmouth.” Kappa did not have a house while she was a student. “When the opportunity came, I was really excited. I was in a position that I could do it, and it seemed like the right time,” she says.
WHAT MONMOUTH MEANS TO HER: “I wouldn’t trade the liberal arts education I received at Monmouth for anything,” says Carla. “Gosh, I made some great lifelong friends there.”
