Series continue
Bloomer to speak on Africa, Sturgeon (left) on new startup company
Two Monmouth College discussion series will continue on Feb. 18-19.
On Feb. 18, Steve Bloomer, MC’s vice president for development and college relations, will introduce the next Great Decisions topic, “U.S. Policy Toward Africa,” at 7:30 p.m. in Room 276 of the Center for Science and Business. Approximately one hour of group discussion will follow his remarks.
Africa is in the midst of an unprecedented transformation, serving as home to some of the fastest-growing economies in the world. Bloomer will discuss how U.S. policy can live up to its promises and values of favoring good governance and healthy economies over profit while still securing its interests in the region.
Great Decisions is a nationwide program sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association, a non-partisan, non-governmental association that works to increase Americans’ understanding of significant foreign policy issues.
On Feb. 19, associate professor of chemistry Brad Sturgeon and local dentist Steve Murmann will speak about the “pico” brewery startup, DeNovo Beverage of Monmouth, LLC, at Monmouth Associates. The event will begin at 12 noon in the Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room of Stockdale Center.
Sturgeon will discuss how the science-business connection that began with the Monmouth Coffee Project has evolved to the brewery partnership with Murmann.
The Associates program is free; a buffet lunch costs $10. Reservations can be made by calling 309-457-2231 by Feb. 17 or by e-mail at alumni@monmouthcollege.edu.
A free shuttle van transports passengers from two locations to every Associates luncheon. The van will stop at the northeast quadrant of the Public Square at 11:45 a.m. and at the Faith United Presbyterian Church parking lot at approximately 11:50 a.m. It will return to both locations immediately following the program. Shuttle reservations should be made by calling the above number.
