Final Decisions
The final installment of this semester’s Great Decisions program at Monmouth College will be held March 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 276 of the Center for Science and Business.
Associate professor of history Amy de Farias will introduce the topic “Brazil’s Metamorphosis,” which will be followed by approximately one hour of group discussion. The event is free and open to the public.
After economic troubles in the 1990s, Brazil has risen to new global prominence. It’s drawing in more investment, working on global issues ranging from climate change to peacekeeping, and even hosting the 2016 Olympics. de Farias will discuss how some of Brazil’s trickiest problems –¬ deep divisions over how to tackle serious income inequality, weak civic institutions and poor regional leadership ¬– have held it back, and if its rise as a power can continue.
Great Decisions is a nationwide program sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association, a non-partisan, non-governmental association that works to increase Americans’ understanding of significant foreign policy issues.
