National Recognition
Monmouth College again ranks high in recent surveys of national colleges and universities. Monmouth is especially strong in assessments of the positive impact of the college experience on the intellectual and personal growth of students.
Recent surveys by several national ranking organizations have consistently placed Monmouth College among an elite group of private liberal arts colleges that offer high value for a student’s investment:
- As reported this week by USA Today, Monmouth ranked 68th out of more than 1,200 institutions among Best Nationwide Colleges for Your Money, in a study conducted by College Factual.
- The 2015 Money magazine rankings placed Monmouth among the top 50 Most Affordable Private Colleges in the nation for the second consecutive year.
- Washington Monthly magazine ranks colleges on their contribution to the public good by graduating low-income students, producing cutting-edge scholarship and giving back to the community through service. Monmouth ranked 38th out of 248 institutions surveyed in graduating students at a higher rate than predicted.
- In the National Survey of Student Engagement, designed specifically to measure the impact of the educational experience over a student’s four years, Monmouth students reported significantly higher levels of collaborative learning, student-faculty interaction and internships than did their peers at other national liberal arts institutions.
Monmouth College president Clarence R. Wyatt expressed appreciation at these accolades.
“The value of higher education, especially residential liberal arts colleges, is under great scrutiny. At Monmouth College, we are gratified that respected national observers recognize our commitment to being a place of both high opportunity and high quality.”
Added Wyatt, “As a first-generation college student myself, I know how life can be empowered through such an experience. Monmouth College’s mission is not just to monitor progress toward a degree. Our purpose is to mentor the growth of young people in the breadth of intellect, depth of character, and moral courage for which our national and global societies yearn. In a time of rapid – often chaotic – change, we must nurture in our students and encourage in ourselves the ability to, in the words of Abraham Lincoln, ‘think anew and act anew.’”
Monmouth College has also been recognized recently by other national publications. U.S. News and World Report again ranked Monmouth in the top tier of National Liberal Arts Colleges, a select group of 249 institutions that emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half of their degrees in the liberal arts fields of study. Princeton Review also named Monmouth College one of its “Best of the Midwest” colleges for 2016. Monmouth was also named a national “College of Distinction” for providing a “teaching centered undergraduate education that combines innovative learning programs with experiential educational opportunities.”
