English professor Watson to speak at Black History Month event
As part of its observance of Black History Month, Monmouth College will host an evening celebrating African American literature on Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Intercultural House, 727 E. Broadway.
English professor Craig Watson will lead an in-depth informational session on the contribution to English literature by African American writers, authors and poets. The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served. A Monmouth faculty member since 1986, Watson holds a B.A. degree from Carleton College and the University of Illinois, a master’s degree from California State University-San Francisco and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He is a past recipient of a Burlington Northern Foundation Faculty Achievement Award at Monmouth and he received the college’s Hatch Academic Excellence Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2013.
