First destination survey

Monmouth’s 2015 grads topped national internship figure, 91 percent with jobs are full-time
  • The Class of 2015 received its diplomas in May. A recent survey shows 99 percent of the class in professional positions or further experiences in higher education.
For the fourth consecutive year, 99 percent of Monmouth College’s most recent graduates who responded to a “first destination” survey are in professional positions or further experiences in higher education.   At 82 percent, the college once again received a higher response rate to the annual survey than most of its peer institutions, explained Stephanie Kinkaid, assistant director of the college’s Wackerle Career Leadership Program, who noted that the numbers inside the overall 99 percent figure are also very positive.
“In particular, we were pleased to see that so many of our 2015 graduates reported having internship experiences while at Monmouth,” said Kinkaid. “The national average tends to be between 68 and 75 percent, but 83 percent of this class reported participating in at least one internship, and most were involved in more than one. That’s especially impressive when you consider that most of Monmouth’s majors don’t require an internship.”   Kinkaid also noted that the number of students enrolled in graduate school increased 57 percent from the year before, and that of the 78 percent of the students who are in professional positions, 91 percent are working full-time.   “What I love about this is that it’s the fourth straight year we’ve been at 99 percent,” said Kinkaid. “The dynamics of every class are different – the Class of 2015, for example, was a highly motivated group – but to see that consistency spread across four classes is a strong indicator that, year after year, Monmouth is generating the type of positive outcomes that prospective students and their parents expect.”   Related to the importance of choosing a specific best-fit college like Monmouth, said Kinkaid, is survey data about the importance of attending college, in general. Seventy-eight percent of the employed graduates reported that their position required a bachelor’s degree, up from 75 percent the year before.   Companies that hired 2015 Monmouth graduates included such multi-national corporations as Caterpillar and Deere, as well as NBC Universal, State Farm, Whirlpool, U.S. Bank, Enova, Consolidated Grain and Barge, and Rural King Supply.   The college sent multiple members of the Class of 2015 to graduate programs at the University of Illinois and the University of Missouri, while others enrolled at John Marshall Law School, Colorado State University, Ball State University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, to name a few. They are studying such subjects as oncological medicine, physics, occupational therapy, medical microbiology and library science.
