International Luncheon about France, two films part of college’s observance
Monmouth College will observe Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures (MLLC) Week and Cultural Awareness Week March 14 – 19 with a series of events on campus, including two foreign films and an International Luncheon.
The luncheon talk on March 17 will be given by MLLC faculty member Annie Moore and history professor Stacy Cordery, who recently traveled to Europe. Titled “Our Travel to France: Building Bridges – Building Connections,” it will be presented at noon in the Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room of Stockdale Center. An optional meal, featuring international cuisine, is available for $8.50 and must be reserved by noon on March 15 by calling 309-457- 2253 or e-mailing aprince@monmouthcollege.edu.
The featured films, which are free and open to the public and will be shown in the Pattee Auditorium of the Center for Science and Business, are “Pelo Malo (Bad Hair)” on March 15 at 6 p.m. and “Le Petit Prince” on March 16 at 5 p.m. Both films explore a child’s relationship with a single mother and real-world problems creeping into their young lives.
Other events for the week are an MLLC Language Showcase, a cultural trip to the Alliance Francaise in Chicago, and the Scots MINA Connection and Cultural Awareness Conference on March 19. At the latter event, members of the Monmouth Intercultural Network of Alumni will visit campus to share their wisdom, experience and skills with students who are about to graduate or enter internship opportunities.
