‘Night of Percussion’
Or, in other words, an evening of marimbas boomwhackers, vibraphones on April 19
- The Monmouth College Percussion Ensemble will continue its tradition of performing with boomwhackers as part of its second “Night of Percussion” event.
If marimbas, boomwhackers and vibraphones are your thing – or if you’re curious what they are – Monmouth College’s second “Night of Percussion” is the event to attend April 19.
The Monmouth College Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Jordan Van Dyke, will present a concert featuring those instruments and several more from the drum family at 7:30 p.m. April 19 in the Kasch Performance Hall of Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
“The evening will feature many different and unique selections ranging from vibraphone solos to body percussion,” said Van Dyke, who will be one of several musicians doing solo performances when he plays the concert snare drum solo “Three Dances” by Warren Benson.
Solos by students will include Emily Malecha, a freshman from Libertyville, Ill., performing her own composition on the vibraphone. Also performing solos will be junior Carley Folluo of Davenport, Iowa, on the marimba, freshman Oscar Diaz of Chicago on a marching snare drum, and sophomore Cameron Bolley of Clarkston, Mich., on a pipe snare drum.
Van Dyke noted the ensemble will continue its tradition of performing with boomwhackers – hollow, color-coded, plastic percussion tubes that are tuned to musical pitches by length.
