Students who spent fall semester in Italy, Spain, Thailand to speak at luncheon
Italy, Spain and Thailand will be brought to life at Monmouth College during the final International Luncheon of the academic year on April 21.
Three students will discuss their study-abroad experiences last fall in those countries at noon April 21 in the Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room of Stockdale Center. Their talk is free and open to the public; a meal, featuring international cuisine, is available for $8.50. Reservations for the meal must be made by April 19 by calling 309-457-2253 or e-mailing aprince@monmouthcollege.edu.
Senior Spanish/psychology major Diana Alvarez of Chicago will highlight her stay in Spain, where she studied in the Centro de Lenguas Modernas at the University of Granada; junior communication studies/business administration major Cole Downey of Geneva, Ill., will discuss his semester at Universita Cattolica in Milan, Italy; and senior physics major Nick Devor of St. Charles, Ill., will report on his experiences in Pathum Thani, Thailand, where he studied at Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology at Thammasat University.
“I was able to visit Morocco with my study-abroad program, which was amazing because I was able to experience yet another language and culture,” Alvarez said. Devor said he appreciated the climate halfway around the world.
“I spent Thanksgiving on the island of Koh Tao and went scuba diving into a school of jellyfish,” he said. “After that, I took a trip to Bali, where I spent most of my time surfing, drinking coffee and hanging out with friends from all over the world.”
