Family Weekend
Fun, festive annual event set for Sept. 16-18
Monmouth College will host its annual Family Weekend Sept. 16-18. The weekend is designed to help students share and enjoy the Monmouth experience with their families and help them all become part of the Monmouth College family.
The weekend’s festivities will begin with a performance for students and their families by magician Ben Seidman at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 in Dahl Chapel.
The Saturday, Sept. 17, activities begin with a 5K run/walk at 8 a.m., starting with check-in at 7:15 a.m. at the Huff Athletic Center. Participants may run, jog or walk the course, which begins and ends at the center’s south entrance.
A “legacy” brunch will be held at 10 a.m. in Mellinger Commons in the Center for Science and Business. Open to students and their alumni relatives, the event celebrates Monmouth’s long-standing family traditions.
From 11 a.m.-3 p.m., “inflatable” activities for all ages will be available in The Quad, behind Stockdale Center. An all-campus cookout will be held at 11:30 a.m. in The Quad. The Fighting Scots will kick off their second home football game of the season at 1 p.m. against Ripon College at April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
At 7 p.m. in Dahl Chapel, three music ensembles will present the annual Family Weekend Concert, which is free and open to the public. Performing will be the Monmouth Chamber Orchestra, the Monmouth Chorale and the Monmouth Winds.
At 9 p.m. in Dahl Chapel, students and their families will be treated to a performance by the improv group Guys in Ties. The performance is free, but reservations and a ticket are required for admission.
A buffet brunch from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, in the Main Dining Room in Stockdale Center will conclude the weekend’s activities.
