Distinguished Service Award
Longtime Monmouth art professor Harlow Blum to be honored Sept. 30
An emeritus Monmouth College art professor who has been a member of the College community since the 1950s will be honored at the College’s Alumni Impact Awards ceremony, part of Homecoming weekend festivities.
Harlow Blum will receive the Distinguished Service Award. Blum influenced and inspired hundreds of art students during his 40-year teaching career at Monmouth. Since he retired 17 years ago, Blum has remained a vital presence on campus and in the art world.
Blum’s success as a professor stemmed in part from his dedication and creativity as a serious artist. At the age of 82, he maintains a rigorous schedule of exhibiting new work once a year. An early advocate for developing a center for the arts in Monmouth, he remains committed to ensuring that a high level of culture is available to the greater Monmouth community.
He is married to Lila Blum, a 1961 Monmouth College graduate.
Blum will be honored, along with several other award recipients, at 6 p.m. Sept. 30 in the Mellinger Commons of the Center for Science and Business.
