New Homecoming event
Downtown concert featuring Brooks brothers set for Sept. 30
Monmouth College’s Homecoming traditionally hits the streets with a parade down Broadway, and this year’s celebration will include another way for the community to join the festivities.
Homecoming will hit the alley – Market Alley, to be exact – with an evening social on Sept. 30, featuring live music by The Brooks Brothers-The Very Live Band.
The event is free and open to the public. For those 21 and over, a cash beer tent, featuring locally brewed DeNovo beer, will be available. Beverages can also be purchased in Market Alley Wines and The Alley Tap.
“We’re really excited to put on a larger-scale event downtown where the community and our alumni can engage in a casual atmosphere,” said Assistant Director of Alumni Relations Katie Shipp.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. in Market Alley, located on the southeast quadrant of Monmouth’s Public Square. Music will be performed from 8-10:30 p.m.
Two of the musicians, brothers Glenn Brooks ’61 and Chris Brooks ’72, will be honored earlier in the evening, along with others, when the Brooks family receives the College’s Family of the Year honor.
Joining the Brooks brothers for the R&B performance will be four accomplished musicians – guitar legend Earl Alexander, Rahmlee Michael Davis, Steve Robbins and drummer Buddy Williams. Davis played trumpet in the main horn section for Earth, Wind & Fire, Phil Collins and Genesis. Robbins has played the keyboard or piano on recordings with Sting, Robert Palmer, Irene Cara, Vicki Sue Robinson and Evelyn “Champagne” King. Williams has played drums with Grover Washington, Cedar Walton and David Sanborn.
