ScotSpeak places fifth in opener
Led by Adams and Downey, forensics team starts strong
ScotSpeak – the forensics team at Monmouth College – got its season off to a strong start at the first two Mid-America Forensics League competitions in Mankato, Minn., last weekend.
On Saturday, Monmouth took fifth place as a team behind the 1-2 punch of Anthony Adams ’17 of Chicago and Cole Downey ’17 of Geneva, Ill. Adams placed first in extemporaneous speaking, while Downey was runner-up in prose interpretation.
On Sunday, Downey again reached the finals in prose interpretation, placing fourth.
“I am incredibly proud of the way the team started the season,” said director Rebecca Buel, an instructor in Monmouth’s communication studies department. “We have more work to do, but the feedback this weekend assures me we’ll get to where we want to be.”
Also competing for Monmouth were Michael Horath ’17 of Chatham, Ill., and Sarah Hunt ’18 of Pekin, Ill.
Next up for Monmouth is a two-day competition Oct. 1-2, hosted by Bradley University and Illinois State University.
