‘Experimentation’
Monmouth’s Baugh tries something new in Everett Gallery exhibit
Monmouth College art professor Brian Baugh decided to make a change in his creative process, and the resulting exhibit, appropriately titled “Experimentation,” is on display in the College’s Len G. Everett Gallery through Oct. 28.
“For most of my art-making career, I have been a realist painter inspired by the work of Renaissance artists,” said Baugh, who began teaching at Monmouth in 2005. “For this show, I decided to explore other options by trying to work in other techniques and styles that inspire me. My objective in creating these paintings is to find out if there are other valid ways for me to work in addition to observational realism.”
Baugh’s exhibition features examples from three creative genres: observational realism, nonobjective painting and figurative work from imagination. A gallery reception and talk will be held at 3 p.m. Oct. 21 in the gallery, located on the upper level of Hewes Library.
Promoted to associate professor in 2011, Baugh received his BFA from the University of Montevallo (Ala.) in 1999 and his MFA three years later from the University of Florida.
