New role
Sanberg ’10 looks to help students with career choices
Jenny Sanberg has started a new position at Monmouth College as assistant director of career development/internship coordinator for the Wackerle Career and Leadership Center.
In her new role, the 2010 Monmouth graduate will be responsible for delivering career development programs and services to students. She will assist students with conducting informational interviews, writing résumés, completing applications, searching for internships and preparing for interviews. Sanberg will also conduct career and internship workshops and other informational programs.
“I am looking forward to working collaboratively with different groups, organizations and academic departments to deliver career services to our students,” Sanberg said.
Sanberg was once one of those students herself, and she remembers the Wackerle Center coming through for her as she neared graduation.
“I was that student, waiting until April of my senior year,” she said. “But they helped me prepare a résumé and prepare for a job interview.”
One of the Wackerle Center’s initiatives is to reach Monmouth students as early as possible.
Although new to the role, Sanberg is not new to working at her alma mater. She served in the development office since 2013, most recently as associate director of the Monmouth Fund. Sanberg managed student philanthropy programs, including the senior class gift; oversaw the phonathon program; and directed the Fighting Scots Society athletic booster program.
In her latter role, she helped organize the first three Fighting Scots Society golf outings from 2014-16, with the popular event nearly doubling in size during that time. She also inaugurated crowdfunding for the College, successfully funding three initiatives through an online campaign.
“Jenny’s previous experience in the college relations office as well as her desire to assist students to develop and succeed, will serve her well in her new role,” said Wackerle Center Director Marnie Dugan. “She is a great addition to the Wackerle Center team.”
Sanberg is pursuing her master’s degree in college student personnel/higher education leadership at Western Illinois University.
“I’ve always admired the staff at the Wackerle Center,” Sanberg said. “They really help prepare students for life after college, and for life during college, too. I’m looking forward to a long career in this type of work.”
