Bruckner, Adams lead ScotSpeak in competition at UW-Whitewater
ScotSpeak, the Monmouth College forensics team, traveled to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater last weekend to participate in two rounds of Mid-America Forensics League competition.
On the first day, ScotSpeak was led by Maggie Bruckner ’20 of Aurora, Ill., who was named the top novice, competing in persuasion.
Anthony Adams ’17 of Chicago reached the finals in three events the next day, placing third in impromptu speaking, fifth in extemporaneous speaking and sixth in informative speaking.
“This was a tough tournament with almost 20 schools in attendance, including three of the top five in the nation,” said Monmouth communication studies instructor Rebecca Buel, who directs the team. “I’m very proud with the way the team performed and excited for what the rest of the season holds.”
The team will spend the next two weeks preparing for the 69th Annual Norton Invitational hosted by Bradley University on Nov. 5-6.
“The event is often dubbed ‘Fall Nationals’ and will give the team a taste of what to expect as it heads into nationals season next semester,” said Buel.
