In celebration of #HispanicHeritageMonth, we will be featuring our students, faculty, staff and alumni who identify as Hispanic or Latino/a. Our next student is Ana Laura Iatauro @ana_iatauro, a sophomore majoring in Political Science and Economics. Her country of heritage is Brazil. 🇧🇷 We asked Ana: "What is something you own or connect to that you feel symbolizes your culture?" I feel like everything that I am is because of my culture, since I have spent most of my life living in Brazil. Every aspect of my character is an influence of where I am from, such as my language, the food that I eat, and even my point of view in life! "What is one specific fact that you want people to know about your culture or heritage that they may not already know?" Brazilians are very warm people, they are very affectionate and everything is a reason to give someone a hug and that includes tourists as well! My country is also very regionally diverse, featuring different landscapes over the country.
Thank you to everyone who joined us last Saturday for Classics Day V! 🎉 And thank you to our students, faculty and staff from many departments who worked so hard to make this day an incredible one. #ItsGreatToBeAScot

In celebration of #HispanicHeritageMonth, we will be featuring our students, faculty, staff and alumni who identify as Hispanic or Latino/a. Our next student is Cassandra Ortiz @sandraxxortiz, a sophomore majoring in Psychology. Her country of heritage is Mexico. 🇲🇽 We asked Cassandra: "What is something you own or connect to that you feel symbolizes your culture?" I’ve always wanted a Our Lady of Guadalupe necklace and my parents got one for me. It really meant a lot to me because she’s an important symbol of Mexican identity. She used to represent social justice, motherhood, and feminism. She’s one of the most powerful female icons of Mexican culture so women can have more of a connection to her. "What is one specific fact that you want people to know about your culture or heritage that they may not already know?" Los Posadas is a celebration held in December and meant to commemorate the experiences of Mary and Joseph as they made their way to Bethlehem. Marked by traditional food and drink, Las Posadas, also involves the tradition of naming one child the “angel,” who is responsible for accompanying family members carrying statues of Mary and Joseph.
