Blogs

Learn how to create a blog and new blog posts.

LiveWhale enables you to create your own blogs to appear on the college website. Some of the steps to create a blog will require an administrator. Once the blog is set up, you can add posts as you like!

Setting up a new blog

1. Create a blog page

First, decide where you want your blog to appear, and create a page for it. For example, to show the blog on your academic website, go to the dashboard of your group and add a new page under Pages > Navigation. We recommend giving page the same title as your blog.

2. Create a new blog

Next, Go to the dashboard Blogs > Add and manage blogs. Then +Create a blog.

Make the Blog URL the same as the url of the page you just created.

Add any blog fields you like, in addition to the default blog post field. If you assign a field to the “sidebar” it will appear in the sidebar after you scroll down the page a little. Apply this sparingly; only use it for short fields where you don’t expect much content to be added.

3. Create a widget to show your blog

You might need an administrator to do this step. Go to Toolbox > Widgets > Global Widgets and check the Blog Posts (from specific blog) widget. Duplicate this widget into your group.

Then go to Your Widgets and click on the widget you just created. Change the widget title, and select the blog you wish to show.

Go to the page you created in step 1. Edit the page and Insert > Widget then select the blog widget you just created. Save the page. Now, any blog posts you add will appear here.

4. Add blog posts

Go back to the dashboard Blogs > Your New Blog and +Add a new blog post.

Fill out the form, upload a high-quality image if you have one, and save. Voilà! The blog posts will appear on the page you created earlier.
