Distinguished Alumnus Award

Recognizing the exceptional achievements of our alumni.

2023 Award Recipient - Richard Yahnke ’66

Dick Yahnke’s Monmouth education served as a springboard to the success he’s experienced – first as a Navy line officer aboard the USS Massey with two overseas deployments in the 1960s, then throughout his 40-year marketing and management career with John Deere.

Dick held a variety of management experiences in numerous marketing and manufacturing locations for John Deere, including an assignment as marketing manager for Australia and New Zealand. He retired in 2006 as vice president of Worldwide Agricultural Parts Marketing.

Dick was elected to the Board of Trustees in 1994 and joined its executive board in 2004. During his 25 years of Board service, he was chair of the Admissions Committee.

“Dick is an exemplary alum and trustee, with a great love for Monmouth College. His dedication and commitment to the College are incredible, and the College community is fortunate and blessed to have him.”

Even today, more than 60 years from when he began his time as a Monmouth student, Dick is making a difference at his alma mater. His and his wife’s recent gift to the College – which was part of the successful Light This Candle Campaign – established the Yahnke Business and Economics Endowed Internship Fund. The first student to benefit from the fund now has a related position in the National Football League.
