1. Proficiency at the 102 level meets the Core Languages and Cultures requirement and is necessary for the SPAN major. This proficiency can be acquired through taking SPAN 102, with SPAN 101 if needed, or it can be acquired through a placement test.
2. FYQR 110 or a QR waiver are also acceptable for the FYQR Core Foundations requirement.
3. A total of 6 credits of SPAN major electives is required to complete the SPAN major. 4 of these must be taken at the 300- or 400- level.

5. SPAN 310, which meets the Inquiry in the Humanities Core requirement, is not required for SPAN majors, but is an option for a SPAN major elective.
