Additional Notes:

  1. FYQR 120 or a QR waiver are also acceptable for the FYQR Core Foundations requirement.
  2. Among PHIL 205, PHIL 307, and PHIL 311, only two are required.
  3. A total of 4 (or 5) credits of PHIL major electives is required to complete the PHIL major.
  4. A list of options for PHIL major electives can be found at the Requirements link.
  5. There are two options for the capstone. The first is to do research in the fall (450) and to write a thesis in the spring (452). Or, in the spring, take an extra elective combined with a smaller research project (452).

Guidelines for Core Requirements:

  • Core Foundations area courses – to be completed in the first year.
  • Core Inquiry area courses – recommended to complete one each year.
    • At least one Inquiry course is offered within the Major requirements.
  • Core Engagement area courses – recommended to complete one each year.
    • Check if an Engagement course is offered within the Major requirements.
