Learn anatomy in virtual reality
Our anatomy and physiology classes use virtual reality stations to help students explore the heart and other organs up close.
Our Center for Science and Business features an anatomy lab where students can work with a cadaver to hone anatomy skills.
Premed bootcamp at JUMP Simulation facility
Students have the opportunity to apply to participate in a pre-med Immersion experience in the summer, part of OSF HealthCare’s Jump Simulation program. Offered to college students who plan to attend medical school, the two-week program exposes 12 participants to a range of clinical roles within OSF HealthCare and gives them a taste of medical school. Dr. Ralph Velazquez Jr. ’79, vice chair of the Monmouth Board of Trustees, is OSF senior vice president of care management.
Introduction to Health Careers class
majors, we offer an “Introduction to Health Careers” class (BIOL 207) for students interested in exploring medicine and other health professions. The class is designed to inform students about career choices in the health professions and to review expectations and requirements for successful applicants to professional school. The class features guest speakers and hands-on activities such as suturing and blood pressure checks.

Doc Kieft Chemistry Summer Research Program
The Richard “Doc” Kieft endowment, set up by a former Monmouth chemistry professor, provides funding for up to a dozen chemistry or biochemistry students research assistants each summer. Students apply for the Doc Kieft Scholarship as part of their admissions process. The funding also supports travel expenses that allows up to 16 students per year to attend and present their work at the the American Chemical Society’s national meeting.
