Additional Notes:

  1. ENGL 180 is recommended as the ENGL elective in the first semester because other ENGL major electives have prerequisites. ENGL 180 can only be taken once.
  2. FYQR 110 or a QR waiver are also acceptable for the FYQR Core Foundations requirement.
  3. A total of 3.5 credits of ENGL major electives is required, but majors frequently complete 4 credits of major electives.
  4. A list of options for ENGL major electives can be found at the Requirements link.
  5. ENGL 180, 202, 250, and 350, which meet the Inquiry in the Humanities requirement, are not required for ENGL majors, but are options for ENGL major electives.
  6. ENGL 210, 301, and 310, which meet the Artistic Inquiry requirement, are not required for ENGL majors, but are options for ENGL major electives.
  7. ENGL 359, which meets the Global Learning requirement, is not required for ENGL majors, but is an option for an ENGL major elective.

Guidelines for Core Requirements:

  • Core Foundations area courses – to be completed in the first year.
  • Core Inquiry area courses – recommended to complete one each year.
    • At least one Inquiry course is offered within the major requirements.
  • Core Engagement area courses – recommended to complete one each year.
    • Check if an Engagement course is offered within the major requirements.
