Science Education
Science teachers help students use and interpret scientific theories and data to explain the natural world.
A true liberal arts major
The Social Science Education major is designed to give students a broad background in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, with a concentration in one of these content areas. The program couples this content knowledge with pedagogy about how to teach young people so that students are prepared to be a high school teacher in science.
Community connection
Community is an integral part of teacher preparation at Monmouth. Students’ time in the preparation program involves working closely with an area high school science teacher during the practicum work in their classroom. The preparation at Monmouth will conclude with a semester-long student teaching experience in a high school science classroom.
