Elementary Education

Teacher excellence from the beginning

For more than 160 years, Monmouth has prepared elementary educators for the rewarding work of teaching domestically and internationally. We have built an outstanding reputation with superintendents, principals, teachers and other educators thanks to our commitment to high-quality teaching practices and mentorship. The Illinois State Board of Education has determined that the Monmouth College Elementary Education program is exemplary in comparison to programs across the state of Illinois!

A visionary program

At Monmouth, we prepare teacher visionaries. With us, students can expect a comprehensive elementary teacher preparation program that:

  • Provides students with the opportunity to be part of a cohort where support and guidance are made available through strong relationships with peers, faculty and practicing teachers.
  • Offers a robust theoretical foundation that supports extensive practical application of skills.
  • Requires multiple practicums working with children in regional schools and after-school programs.
  • Includes a half-time practicum in both primary and intermediate elementary levels prior to student teaching.
  • Culminates with a full-time student teaching internship with weekly on-campus seminar.
