Careers in arts management

Arts organizations seek executives with management expertise who appreciate the importance of the arts and possess skills to effectively communicate with artists and patrons of the arts.

Nonprofit arts organizations rely on leaders with fundraising, marketing, communication and budget-management skills, while commercial arts organizations often demand professionals with a strong marketing and sales background.

Students with a background in arts management often work in positions including:

  • Theatre and performance venue management, including operations, ticket sales and other front-of-house services.
  • Museum and gallery curation.
  • Multimedia development.
  • Event planning.
  • Fundraising.
  • Legal or talent representation.

Get hands-on experience as a student

Our arts management students get plenty of practice, assisting with curation in the Len G. Everett Gallery in Hewes library, or with performances in one of several performance spaces on campus. The Buchanan Center for the Arts is also located just a few blocks from campus in downtown Monmouth.
