A tale of two internships
September 28,
2008
Increasingly, college students are using
internships as a way to supplement their classroom education and gain
valuable hands-on experience. Monmouth College communication and theatre
arts majors Brittany Alston and Kate Drost are two prime examples. |

Skillicorn shuns factory, now
leads creative team
September 21,
2008
Monmouth College’s 2007 commencement speaker, Jerry Marxman ’56, had a
diverse career path that saw him wear the hats of rocket scientist,
entrepreneur and environmentalist.
Roy Skillicorn ’71 and his wife, Elizabeth Witt Skillicorn ’72, can
relate. Art has been at the root of Skillicorn’s professional
experiences over the past four decades, but he has gone from being the
artist himself, to the teacher, then the agent and, now, an owner and
executive producer. |

Belschner's service to college
recognized
September 16,
2008
As one would expect, assistant professor of English Marlo Belschner can often be found in a campus classroom, perhaps discussing one of her favorite plays. But while Belschner is perfectly at home in such a classroom setting, she believes teaching, as well as serving on faculty committees and advising students, is about “half of what faculty do at a college like Monmouth.” |

Go the distance: Peharda authors
novel about running
August 21,
2008
College students handle the stress of final exams in different ways. Fueled by caffeine, some simply stay up all night, poring over their texts, while others seek escape with a quick trip to the gym or a local pizza place.
For Monmouth College junior Matt Peharda, writing a book wound up being his outlet of choice. |

All the world's a stage and Day has
found his role
July 28,
2008
Nearly a quarter-century ago, Jeff Day
enrolled at Monmouth College. After just a year, he left, and his time
on campus looked like it would barely amount to a footnote, much less “a
verse.” During a second try at college, he found a calling in the world
of theater, and there’s been little stopping him since. |

For many, simply attending their 50th college reunion would
be the highlight of their summer. But for Niblock, it might
not even be his most memorable moment of the weekend. |

Giving thanks in
Kandithankulam
May 14,
2008
A simple observation that
I made exactly 20 years ago to the Rev. Jerry Hazen, former
pastor of Monmouth’s Faith United Presbyterian Church,
unexpectedly took a life of its own. |

March 31,

Arizona emerged as a hot spot – literally –
for Monmouth College students over spring break, as four separate
groups, made up of a combined 86 students, gave the Grand Canyon State a
"Monmouth West" feel earlier this month. |

Justin Zigler: What College has Meant to Me
February

2008
A lot happens to a Monmouth College student during
four years on campus. The difference between a wide-eyed
freshman version of a student and the mature senior
model can be profound.

When choosing a college, Tammee Higbee Petersen ’95,

has an outstanding education department with an
exceptional reputation.”
