A bittersweet announcement
Bloomer ’83 accepts position with Phi Delta Theta National Foundation
Monmouth College Vice President for Development and College Relations Stephen M. Bloomer has announced he has accepted the position of Senior Vice President for Advancement at the Phi Delta Theta National Foundation in Oxford, Ohio.
Bloomer, a 1982 ROTC commissioned officer of Monmouth College and a 1983 Monmouth College graduate, served 28 years in the United States Army as a combat engineer officer, retiring at the rank of Colonel. Upon his retirement from the military in 2007, Bloomer joined the development office at Monmouth College, working for seven years as a senior development officer and the director of principal gifts before assuming the role of development vice president from August 2013 until the present.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the students, faculty, and staff of my alma mater. I’d like to thank them for the many wonderful achievements we’ve enjoyed together. Together we made Monmouth stronger and a point of pride for our alumni and friends,” Bloomer said. “I was honored to serve my country during a full and satisfying career in the United States Army, and then I enjoyed my professionally satisfying development career serving my college for these past 10 years. I am confident that the College is on a strong path now, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of that effort. This seems to be a good moment for me to consider new opportunities to help others. I believe the professional growth of my Monmouth experience has positioned me well moving forward.”
Monmouth College President Clarence R. Wyatt said: “We are grateful to Steve, both for his service to our country and to the College. In both careers, Steve has worked effectively and enthusiastically to create opportunities for young people. We wish the best for him in his next adventure, and look forward to Steve and his wife, Cheryl’s, continued involvement as members of the Monmouth College family.”
