Monmouth students bring home awards from biology honor society convention
Five members of Monmouth College’s Gamma Pi Chapter of Beta Beta Beta biology honor society attended the Regional District Convention held earlier this month at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., and three students came away with awards.
The students, all seniors, were led by John Hanlon of Polo, Ill., who received a second place for his poster titled: “Can Daring Jumping Spiders (Phidippus audax) Learn to Prepare Prey with Warning Colors?”
Sarah Timm of Poplar Grove, Ill., received a third place for her poster on “The Physiological Consequences of Citalopram (Celexa) on the Freshwater Chinese Trapdoor Snail (Bellayma chinensis).”
Antoinette White of Sandwich, Ill., received an honorable mention for her poster on “Prevalence of Mate-Guarding by Damaging the External Genitalia of Female Orb-Weaving Spiders.”
Also attending the convention from Monmouth were Meghan Cheever of Chicago and Haley White of Chillicothe, Ill.
The convention also attracted students from Bradley and three other Illinois schools – St. Xavier University, St. Francis University and Millikin University – as well as Wittenberg (Ohio) University.
