This year marked another trip to the national tournament and more hardware for the Monmouth College water polo team.

One of only eight teams to qualify for the Club Team National Championships, Monmouth’s Crab People brought home third place. Monmouth got off to a good start Saturday morning, edging Hamilton 6-5. Eventual national champion Washington University of St. Louis knocked Monmouth into the third-place match, defeating Monmouth 17-11 in the semifinals Saturday afternoon.

The Crab People showed no ill effects of Saturday’s loss and rebounded Sunday to bring home third place by easily defeating Grinnell 11-4.

The team has finished in the top eight nationally the last four years, including a runner-up finish last year.

Club sports are typically funded and coached by the students.
