Nick Carlson, a 2008 graduate of Monmouth College, has returned to his alma mater as its web services director.
Most recently employed by the University of Illinois as a research programmer, Carlson brings nine years of experience with professional-grade technology solutions, including seven years with an emphasis on building content management systems and dynamic web applications. He has also served as a freelance graphic designer since graduating from Monmouth.
Carlson is responsible for designing and managing the college’s external website. He will work closely with the admissions, athletics and development offices to promote their respective missions, while also creating an engaging web environment including video production and the integration of other technology.
“Nick comes to us at an opportune time,” said Jeff Rankin, MC’s director of college communications. “We are on the verge of beginning a conversion to a new content management system and a redesigned website. As the project lead, his expertise, both as a talented designer and a seasoned programmer, will be invaluable to us.”
Some of Carlson’s other duties include monitoring analytics and audience trending, optimizing content and coding and making navigational changes to ensure high search rankings.
“As a relatively recent Monmouth graduate, Nick’s understanding of the college’s academics, student life and traditions will also be useful in developing a website that appeals to prospective students and alumni alike,” added Rankin.
A communication and art double major at Monmouth, Carlson specialized in digital media, graduating summa cum laude. He lives in Monmouth with his wife, Krystal, and their son.
