Historian Schmidt to present MC's Labor Day Lecture

James Schmidt, professor of history at Northern Illinois University, will present Monmouth College’s fifth annual Labor Day Lecture on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room of Stockdale Center.
Free and open to the public, Schmidt’s lecture is titled “Tore All to Pieces: Why Childhood and Industrialization Didn’t Mix.”
Schmidt’s most recent book, “Industrial Violence and the Legal Origins of Child Labor,” won the 2010 Philip Taft Book Prize for the best book about labor history.
