Dan Nolan
The Fighting Scots pose with their Midwest Conference championship hardware moments after defeating Carroll University 75-67 to earn the program's first-ever league title.
The Monmouth College women’s basketball team will face an immediate test in their inaugural trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Scots play host University of Chicago on Friday, March 2, at 8 p.m., with the winner to play Saturday at 7 p.m. in Chicago against either Simpson or UW-Eau Claire. Live video and audio will also be streamed on the University of Chicago website at

Ranked No. 2 in the nation, Chicago has won 46 of its past 47 games, with the only blemish coming last year in a national quarterfinal.

The Scots qualified automatically for the NCAA tournament by winning the Midwest Conference playoffs last weekend. Monmouth beat Lake Forest 76-62 in the semifinals behind 25 points and 12 rebounds from Marla Willard, then topped Carroll 75-67 in the championship game, led by Zipporah Williams' 20 points.

Monmouth is 0-4 all-time vs. the University of Chicago, a former member of the Scots' conference. The teams last met during the 2003-04 season.
