Area residents will have two opportunities to attend what has become a popular local holiday tradition – Monmouth College’s annual “Christmas at Monmouth” concert.

Two free performances will be held in the Kasch Performance Hall of the college’s Dahl Chapel and Auditorium – Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to arrive early, as seating is usually limited.

“Christmas at Monmouth” intertwines narration and choral music to tell the story of the Nativity. Monmouth College ensembles performing will include the Chorale, the Concert Choir, the Chamber Orchestra and a seven-member brass ensemble whose members are drawn from the Monmouth Winds.

The Chorale and Concert Choir will perform a variety of traditional and non-traditional seasonal music, including pieces from the Renaissance through the modern era. The choirs will also unite to perform three pieces together, featuring more 100 singers. Those selections include the first movement of Rutter’s “Gloria,” with piano accompaniment; the Swedish carol “Wonderful Peace,” accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra and the piano; and an arrangement of “O Come All Ye Faithful,” accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra, the brass ensemble and the piano.

Following tradition, the audience will participate in the singing of certain Christmas carols and hymns.
