Monmouth College’s annual Family Weekend will headline a busy Sept. 28-30 schedule on campus. In addition to the popular celebration, which this year is titled “There’s No Place Like MC,” the college will welcome prospective students for a “game day” open house. The event coincides with the Monmouth vs. St. Norbert football game that kicks off Saturday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m. at April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
Family Weekend is designed primarily to help students enjoy the Monmouth College experience with their families. The weekend’s festivities will begin with a performance by comedian Jonathan Burns on Friday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m.
Saturday’s activities begin with a 5K run/walk at 8 a.m., starting in front of the Huff Athletic Center. Inside the Huff Center, a two-day men’s water polo tournament begins action at 9 a.m. in the Pepper Natatorium.
A “legacy” brunch will be held at 10 a.m. in Quinby House. Open to students and their alumni relatives, the event celebrates Monmouth’s long-standing family traditions. Also starting at 10 a.m., cookout food and “inflatable” activities for all ages will be available in The Quad until 2 p.m.
Beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park, the women’s and men’s soccer teams will host Cornell College in Midwest Conference action.
On Saturday at 7 p.m. in Dahl Chapel, three MC music ensembles will present the annual Family Weekend Concert, which is free and open to the public. Performing will be the Monmouth Chamber Orchestra, the Monmouth Chorale and the Monmouth Winds. The Scotsmen will sing before the concert, starting around 6:30 p.m. Between all four groups, approximately 100 students are involved.
At 9 p.m. in Dahl Chapel, students and their families will be treated to a performance by comedy hypnotist Chris Jones. Reservations and a ticket are required for admission.
The office of admission’s game day event is an abbreviated version of its typical open house program. Following a 9 a.m. welcome in the Dahl Chapel, prospective students will tour campus, attend an academic session and enjoy a meal before the football kickoff.
