Monmouth College faculty member Bridget Draxler and Jess Bybee, a senior from Elmwood, will present an International Luncheon on April 10 at 12 noon in the Whiteman-McMillan Room of the college’s Stockdale Center.
Titled “Exploring New and Creative Ways of Seeing London,” the luncheon will feature Bybee sharing her experiences from her semester abroad last spring in the “Arts in Context” program in London, as well as Draxler’s experiences as a graduate student at the University of York and as a researcher at archives throughout England.
Studying both contemporary London theatre and “London as a Visual Text,” Bybee learned about London’s theatre history alongside the rich variety of playhouses and productions in today’s London theatre scene. She also explored the ways in which London’s architecture serves as a visual historical record of the city.
Draxler will talk about the growth of literary tourism in and around London and will also share other possibilities for study in London and England, including post-graduate study, research fellowships and internships.
A buffet lunch, featuring international foods, is available. A meal ticket may be purchased for $7.50 at the luncheon, but lunch reservations must be made by April 7 by calling 309-457-2253. Anyone may attend the presentation without obligation to purchase the meal.
