Paintings by 2009 Monmouth College graduate Desiree Swanson are on display in Monmouth College’s Len G. Everett Gallery through April 4.
Swanson will speak about the exhibit at a reception in the gallery on March 21 at 3 p.m. The reception, talk and exhibit are all free and open to the public.
After graduating magna cum laude from Monmouth with a major in art and a minor in women’s studies, Swanson completed her MFA in painting at Northern Illinois University, where she also received her museum studies certification.
“I am always looking for any interesting or unusual collected objects or seemingly mundane objects with a unique story behind them,” said Swanson, who is a graduate assistant and museum assistant at NIU. “Why do we keep these things? Why can we not get rid of them? These are questions I continually contemplate through my work. By transforming these objects, I allow myself to continuously revisit times and places that I cannot reclaim but will always exist vividly in my mind.”
Located on the second floor of Hewes Library, the Everett Gallery is open during regular library hours: Mondays through Thursdays, 7:30 a.m. to midnight; Fridays, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, noon to midnight.
