Monmouth College President Clarence R. Wyatt has announced that Trent Gilbert has been named MC’s new vice president for enrollment management.

Gilbert spent nine years working in the higher education enrollment field, most recently as a leading consultant in enrollment management. He served as the chief experience officer of Target X, a higher education consulting firm specializing in technology and the campus visit experience. In this role, Gilbert worked with more than 200 college and university clients, helping them to enroll more “best-fit” students and meet aggressive enrollment goals.

One of the nation’s leading experts on recruitment strategy, Gilbert has counseled admission offices, presidents and boards of trustees across the country on issues facing higher education, and has preached the tenets of the experience economy. As an industry expert, Gilbert has been quoted across mainstream media, and has been featured in both U.S. News and World Report and University Business Magazine.

While maintaining his admissions consulting work for the firm Render Experiences, a former division of TargetX, Gilbert took on a full-time role for a client, serving as Richmont Graduate University’s vice president of enrollment and administration. During his two and one-half years in this role, Gilbert has successfully increased the institution’s enrollment and has greatly increased awareness of the university’s brand.

“We are fortunate to have attracted a very strong field of candidates for this position, yet another testament to Monmouth’s growing strength and reputation,” said President Wyatt. “Trent has a distinctive combination of work as a consultant with some of the nation’s strongest liberal arts colleges and universities, along with success as a vice president for enrollment management. His strategic sense, his knowledge of cutting-edge methodologies and technology, along with his natural leadership abilities, will be great assets for Monmouth. Trent and his wife, Adrienne, are passionate advocates for the liberal arts, and Lobie and I are pleased to welcome them to the Monmouth family.”

Gilbert is a graduate of Elon University in North Carolina, where he earned a B.A. in political science.  Immediately after graduation, he served as an admissions counselor, then was quickly promoted to associate director of admission at his alma mater. While at Elon, Gilbert was actively involved in a variety of admissions processes – including making the transition from rolling admissions to deadline admissions, supervising the “A Team” – a group of student tour guides used specifically for special admission events, and opening productive new markets for the university.

“As graduates of private liberal arts colleges ourselves, Adrienne and I have a true heart for the liberal arts experience,” said Gilbert. “Even though we are glad for the exposure that we have had in each of our varying professional roles, our greatest desire has been to head back to our roots and engage in the kind of community that exists at Monmouth College. We are overjoyed to be joining such a truly special place, and we look forward to becoming a part of the campus community and playing a part in Monmouth’s growth and transformation.”

The Gilberts will be relocating to the Monmouth area, along with their infant son, Kai, and their two rescue dogs, Sara and Hunter. The family currently resides in Atlanta, Ga.
