The Monmouth College men’s club water polo team – ranked as the No. 2 Division III club team in the nation by the Collegiate Water Polo Association – will be returning to the Club National Championships after winning their fifth consecutive Heartland Conference title last weekend.
Monmouth’s club team – known as the Crab People – swept through the eight-team league tournament held at Grinnell College with relative ease. The team outscored their opponents 57-16, with only one match decided by fewer than 14 points.
The Crab People opened the conference tournament with a 23-3 win over St. Mary’s (Minn.) behind a six-goal effort from freshman Raheem Brown. Brown added eight more scores in a 21-7 win over Grinnell in the semifinals. Tony Marino and Gabe Baginski added four goals each as goalkeepers Marshall Palfenier and Alex Hernandez combined for a 15-save performance.
Marino’s four goals and freshman Cameron Weber’s three propelled Monmouth past Macalester in the title match, where the Crab People posted a 13-6 win.

The team will travel to Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt., for the national tournament Nov. 3-4.
