Amanda Lehmann, a current Monmouth College student from Tinley Park, poses with her parents during last year’s Family Weekend festivities. This year’s Family Weekend is scheduled for Sept. 24-26.
Monmouth College’s annual Family Weekend will headline a busy Sept. 24-26 schedule on campus. In addition to the popular celebration, which this year is titled “Oh, the Places Scots Will Go,” the college will welcome prospective students to its second game day open house of the fall. The event coincides with the Monmouth vs. Illinois College football game that kicks off Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. at April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
Family Weekend was designed primarily to help students enjoy the Monmouth College experience with their families. Parents are encouraged to visit their sons’ and daughters’ classes between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sept. 24. Later that day, at 6 p.m., there will be an opportunity for families to scale the rock climbing wall in the Trotter Fitness Center. At 8 p.m., Comedy Sportz will perform an improv show in the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
Saturday’s activities begin with a 5K run/walk at 8 a.m., starting in front of the Huff Athletic Center. A “legacy” brunch will be held at 10 a.m. in Quinby House. Open to students and their alumni relatives, the event celebrates Monmouth’s long-standing family traditions. Also at 10 a.m., “inflatable” activities for all ages will be available in the quad area and the rock climbing wall will again be open.
Weather permitting, hot air balloon rides will be offered following the football game. Later that day, at 7 p.m. in Dahl Chapel, three MC music ensembles will present the annual Family Weekend Concert, which is free and open to the public. Performing will be the Monmouth Chamber Orchestra, the Monmouth Chorale and the Monmouth Winds. At 9 p.m. in Dahl Chapel, students and their families will be treated to a performance by mentalist Christopher Carter. Reservations and a ticket are required for admission.

The office of admission’s game day event is an abbreviated version of its typical open house program. The day’s schedule begins with a welcome at 10 a.m. in the Dahl Chapel, and prospective students will remain busy with tours, meetings and a meal until just prior to the game’s 1 p.m. kickoff.
